It’s that time of year where we all look forward to finding the perfect gift for the loved ones in our lives. But don’t be satisfied with the standard offerings. If you know someone who loves the outdoors, consider one of the following items from our 2018 Christmas gift ideas for outdoorsmen (and women) list.

Believe me, the outdoorsman in your life will be glad you didn’t get them another pair of slippers or a grooming kit. You only need so many fingernail clippers and nose hair trimmers…but you can never have too much outdoor gear!

7 Gift Ideas for Outdoorsmen

Off Grid Tools Survival Axe

The Survival Axe looks a lot like something you’d want handy for the zombie apocalypse, but it’s actually a very useful tool for camping. I keep mine in my camping box, ready to go. You can read our review of the Survival Axe here.

Travelon floating, waterproof phone case

I love this thing! When I fish out of my boat or kayak, I need something that will keep my phone dry and safe. I used a latching, hard shell case for a while, but it was such a pain taking the phone out and putting it back in everytime I needed to use it. That’s when I found this waterproof pouch style case.

Not only does it keep my phone dry, but I can also use the phone while it is inside the pouch (including making calls and taking photos), and if I drop it in the water, it will float. It is the perfect case for boating, kayaking, and other outdoor activities where water is close by.

I highly recommend one of these phone cases.

Black Lantern shirt

We included Black Lantern last year, but there are some new designs that they have released since then. I love their outdoors themed designs on shirts, hats, glasses and more! They have an Amazon shop (here), but to get the latest designs you’ll need to check out their website.

Rescue Knife

A rescue knife is a folding style knife that in addition to a blade, includes a glass breaker and a strap cutter. this is a great item to keep in your car in case you get into an accident or in case you run across one and need to help get someone out of a car. There are many different brands to choose from, but I would encourage you to grab one for each of your vehicles or for your personal every day carry knife.

Shimano Syncopate spinning reel

My favorite fishing reels are the Shimano spinning reels with the Quickfire casting trigger for one handed casting. I personally use the Sienna 2500rg on my primary fishing pole. However, the Syncopate series also includes the Quickfire casting trigger at a lower price point within most people’s Christmas gift price range.

Pop-up shelter/canopy

A quick, pop-up style shelter is a must for our camping kit. They provide shelter from the sun or the rain. We usually place ours right over our picnic table, providing shelter for our eating area. You can add a tarp to one side for additional protection. One thing we have learned is to add guylines to each corner so it will handle wind gusts better.

LuminAID Packlite solar lantern 2-in-1 (with phone charging)

The LuminAID was on our list last year, but this year they have a new model that will not only charge with sunlight or via a standard phone charger, it can also be used to charge your cell phone! That is a great feature to have while camping or backpacking. These lanterns are also a great emergency light in case of power outages.
