Most states offer at least one day, if not multiple days, when you can fish without a license. Not having to purchase a license removes one of the barriers newcomers to fishing often have – the cost and hassle of getting a license. We have compiled a list of free fishing days by state in 2018. We have been able to verify most of the dates, but some states don’t announce their free fishing days until a little later in the year.
Each state is different. In some states free fishing is only for residents. In other, free fishing is for non-residents as well. In all states, all other fishing regulations still apply (like size limits, bag and possession limits, etc.). Be sure to check the details for your state.
